Learn to draw with career art instructor Robert Rex! Students will learn the concepts of drawing basic shapes and applying shading using vine charcoal, white charcoal, and graphite pencils. Students will practice time-tested techniques, study the works of masters, and complete a detailed still life drawing by the end of this 12-week course. See material list below.

Teacher Biography: My name is Robert Rex, and I am a retired art teacher. I taught for 30 years at the high school level and for 10 years (two nights a week) at the junior college level. I also taught adult education classes at Visalia Unified School District in Visalia, CA. Also, I taught drawing at the local prison for two years (one night per week). I started my art education at Fresno State University, then, later on, I transferred to Art Center, College of Design. From Art Center I transferred to Long Beach State University where I got my bachelors degree. I then moved to the Chico, CA area and got my teaching credential. Then I moved to Visalia, CA and started teaching art at Mt. Whitney High School. After teaching for 10 years at Mt Whitney, I was hired to teach a basic drawing class for the College of the Sierra's (a 2-year college)- this in addition to my daytime duties teaching at Mt. Whitney. I retired in 2000 and moved to the John Day, OR area where I have taught a few art classes in my studio.
