Oil Painting Jump Start

Ready to get started painting in oil?  The materials you use and the design of your working space is critical to a successful painting. There is a wide variety of materials to choose from and it's hard to know where to start. In this class you will learn the basics about initial materials to purchase and how to set up a working space.

In addition, we will be looking at how to set up an outdoor or mobile studio to paint "en plein air". I will show you several different set-ups and help you decide what to purchase. 

There is no need to bring paint materials to this class (unless you have a question about them.) We will not be painting or drawing. We will only be learning about materials to buy and setting up your studio with properly lighting. 

Future classes will lead you through how to decide what to paint, finding your style, drawing out a painting, mixing color, painting techniques, how to varnish a painting, and more.

This class is designed for beginners, but I encourage veterans of painting to join in. Learning is an ongoing process.

Ages 12 and up. $20 for class.

About me:

I'm a lifelong resident of John Day. I love to paint and draw. I primarily paint figurative works in a realistic style but have painted in most mediums and styles and can help you get started with just about anything. I strongly believe that painting and drawing is a learned skill. Everyone can learn to draw and paint with the right instruction, practice and dedication. I have a strong passion for painting and I hope to share with you what I have learned. I hope that it will help grow and strengthen our creative community.
