What are the successful components of a portrait? How do you capture someone's likeness? How do you express personality and mood? How do you mix skin tones?
In this class you'll paint an 11 x 14 portrait of your loved one and learn answers to all these questions and more! You'll gain valuable insight into the portrait painting process and confidence in portrait painting.
This class will be held once per week during the winter term (excluding holiday weeks). This will allow time to complete the portraits and allow for any absences. If time allows, you may wish to start another portrait during the term for an additional $40 for the cost of the supplies.
Prerequisite: Students need to have taken "Paint an Oil Painting Start to Finish" or "Oil Painting Basics" before registering for this class as we will be using some of the techniques learned in these courses.
Bring to the first class: Have available on your phone, ipad, or printed copies of several portraits (human or pet) for us to review. During the first class we will talk about how to choose your reference photo and choose one to paint from your selections. Be sure the photos are not blurry and have a fairly high resolution.
About the instructor:
I'm a local artist and I love painting the figure. To me, portraits are the ultimate expression of love toward a human or animal. Rendering an image to capture the personality or expression of a being is pure joy. I hope to share my painting experience with you so you, too, can express your love for your family, friends, and furry creatures.
